The Editor
Edenilson Lopes de Meira was born in São Roque in the state of
São Paulo in Brazil on the begining of the 70's. The country was
getting into a cultural transformation phase and it was dominated
by the dictatorship regime, which didn't allow the propagation of
ideas of freedom and therefore created a generation thirsty for the
freedom of opinion. Such panorama was primordial for the formation of a cultural
foundation full of artists, writers and free thinkers who kept themselves influent in music
and art for the next fifteen years until the end of the militar regime and dictatorship in
1985. Since as a child, Edenilson was always fascinated by the power of words and the
effects he was able to create, but as he himself always comment, he was too lazy to
compile his ideas and put them together in a single work and distribute his art. By the end
of 90's, with a strong economic recession in the country and the work market more
difficult and compettive, Edenilson moved out of the country trying to get a better quality
of life. He landed in Canada on January 31st of 1998 with the idea of learning English and
go back to Brazil for teaching. Because of the uncertainty of a better life back home and
the awareness that he needed more time to learn the language, he decided to stay in
Canada longer than for-seem and follow on with his ideas. The professional opportunities
in Canada and the Canadian way of life made this Brazilian fall in love with the land and
become a Canadian citizen eventually. Edenilson married his best friend and soul mate
Kenadja Aureliane da Silva on August 24th 2011 and returned his attention and interest to
poetry and short stories translated by the art of words. Nowadays, he lives in Kingston in
the province of Ontario and writes for both countries, Canada and Brazil.
